More Than Anything

Ever walked into the room and found yourself to be the only one bothered that EVERY puzzle piece from EVERY puzzle you own has been dumped and mixed together?! Nothing like marathon puzzling to bring a family together right!?! Or playing 52 board game pick up… 52 different board games pulled out, dumped, and mixed together, and left all over the floor! God knows I have an organizing fetish so maybe I should look at this as a blessing!?! Or maybe someone decided to help with the laundry (praise the Lord) and now the one thing, the one thing you have allowed yourself to buy new for yourself in months…months, is now only going to fit your ankle (and the item is not a sock, though it now resembles one)!! These things strike a cord with anyone else?! Reminds me that even on our best days none of us are really good.

Romans 3:10-18 There is no one righteous, not even one; there is not one who understands, no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there in no one who does good not even one. Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit. The poison of vipers in on their lips. Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood; ruin and misery mark their ways, and the way of peace they do not know. There is no fear of God before their eyes. -Yet, this righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. Romans 4:22-24

We are ALL included in the above reference. The only good in any of us is God. No one is good–except God alone. Mark 10:18 So why is it when bad things happen we ask “why?” rather than “why not?!” None of us are owed anything but death on the cross and Jesus took that and replaced it with eternal life for all who would believe in Him… if we get nothing else on this earth there is joy without compare to be found in salvation in Jesus. He said this world would have trouble and boy was He right but He promised His presence through it all. It’s easier to talk about this subject in theory however from the midst of the storm everyone begins to sound like Jobs friends. I copied this poem down as I thought it to be good words for severe heartache in this world of which there is an abundance.
“Don’t talk to me yet;
The wound is fresh,
The nauseous pain
I can’t forget
Fades into numbness
Like a wave,
Then comes again.
Your tears I understand,
But grief is deaf,
It cannot hear the words
You gently planted
And tried to say,
But…
Pray…”

Prayer is more powerful than we give it credit. If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 God is good all the time, all the time God is good. We are a people quick to turn away (Ex. 32:8) and prone to evil (Ex. 32:22). I’m reminded of when the Israelites made a golden calf to worship rather than God even though they had been warned not to have other gods. God was not unjust in His anger toward His disobedient people however He chose to extend mercy (Ex.32:14). His ultimate demonstration of His mercy, grace and love was shown on the cross, when He chose to give up His life for yours and mine. Lord please help me to see every situation and circumstance with the backdrop of the cross atop Calvary and please give me a faith unshakable in very shake-able circumstances. Help me to remember Your character, that You are compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. (Ex. 34:6-7) Help me to feel Your all sufficient presence and rest in Your great love and peace that surpasses knowledge, to seek You more than anything… more than the healing, more than the blessing, more than the answer…be the great I AM of my heart Jesus.
Now when it comes to puzzle pieces and shrunken clothes maybe I can find the “glad” in it a little more easily because in the grand scheme, in the big picture of this worlds current condition… those things are rich blessings. Thank you Jesus for your unfailing love…all the time.

  1. I appreciate your ability in Him to see over the hardships, big or little. A good reminder.

I have taken a slightly less spiritual tack, on one point: After the first time we put a new puzzle together, we flip it upside down and code each piece on the back. That way when there’s a stray on the floor at room-cleaning time, we know just where it goes, and there is peace (as opposed to piece). 🙂

Of course, if it’s a 1000 piece puzzle, you’re on your own.

    1. I love the idea! We did that for all the puzzles we took camping however you have reminded me why compartmentalize when the idea is genius across the board (all the boards😉). Thanks for sharing – and reading! God bless your day. 🙂
