I truly love the snow I truly, truly do it is breathtakingly beautiful and one of my favorite things is waking up to a freshly God-sent winter wonderland. However as much as I like to tell myself I like spontaneity and adventure (and I do truly) but I have another streak that I think tends to run a little stronger… for example the weather app on my phone has not been working at all lately, (it seems to be reporting fine for every other city in the world, but the city I live in continues to show two blank lines?!) no biggie right, I could find it any other way however it is my routine to just check it on my phone the week/day before and be appropriately planned and prepared ahead of time. For an excessive planner like myself this is quite distressing… knowing the weather for the next day allows me to mentally pick out the outfit the night before thus saving precious moments the next morning. Not to mention will the car need to be thawed, the walk shoveled, the windows scraped? Will the kids need full winter garb (x6) this takes planning people! The morning hours before school and work are to be intentional and purposeful family time before going out into the world and it may just all hit the fan in disarray because my weather app it under construction! Oh but my bible app still worked and you want to know the verse of the day… Psalm 46:10 Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. … God has a sense of humor doesn’t He! If He wants to send snow and not let me know about it first so be it!! For goodness sakes Janette you should know Him well enough at least to know He can not, and will not be put into a nice little organized box! I’m on my longer blog site this morning because I feel God has made a few points to me this morning that I want to make sure I get down so as not to forget. First, Psalm 8:3-4 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? -As I sit in awe at the pure white view out my kitchen window I’m reminded of His sacrifice, Isaiah 1:18 Though your sins are like scarlet, they will be white as snow. – I learned the prophet was describing the red die that was obtained from small insect eggs. Clothes could be double dyed in this so that it was stained permanently. Like sin it’s a permanent stain however what no human can do God did on the cross for us. He can forgive us and make the stain that would never, could never come out by any human effort completely gone. He can purify our hearts white as snow!! Amazing that the God of the universe would be mindful of us that way, such mercy and grace! I read in Ex. 9 today about all the plagues brought on the Egyptians in order to free God’s people there are two verses in parenthesis, Ex. 9:31-32 (The flax and barley were destroyed, since the barely had headed and the flax was in bloom. The wheat and spelt, however, were not destroyed, because they ripen later.) I though wow even in bringing the hail on disobedient people God in his grace and mercy spared some of their future crops! Maybe because in verse 20 it says there were officials of Pharaoh that feared the Lord… reminds me that there is always a remnant I am not alone. When Moses agrees to pray to God to stop the hail on Pharaoh and the land he says in verses 29-30 the storm will stop so that you may know that the earth is the Lord’s. But I know that you and your officials still do not fear the Lord God. – I pray Lord that even in the unexpected I would bow to You in reverent fear learning patience, gaining Your perspective and allow Your peace to flood my soul. 2 Chron. 26:15-16 reminds me of what can happen if I don’t bend my knew to His Sovereignty. Uzziah who had done what was right in the eyes of the Lord until his fame spread far and wide and he became powerful and his pride led to his downfall. Sadly we are all at risk of this. Proverbs 9:10 Says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. – A reverent fear. One that acknowledges He is “other” outside our time and space understanding, no matter what we do or do not do will not make Him more or less God than He already is. He is fully God whether we choose to believe it or not and what He chooses to do and how He chooses to do it is not something He needs to explain to us. Reading the bible and through Jesus we know His nature to be love, the greatest and deepest kind of love but He is Almighty and will not be mocked. Ex. 9:16 says but I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth. – Some might say oh poor Pharaoh that his heart remained hard and God chose to use him to display more of who He is to all of history but as Paul would say in Romans 9:21 Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use? – Some could question why God chose to spare Paul and use Him so mightily for His glory being a former murderer of Christians. To show his infinite grace, mercy and forgiveness to all, revealing more of Himself to us. We will never have God all figured out because then He would be too small to worship. We are to stand in awe and wonder of all that He is and all that we are not… who are we that He cares for us at all?! I’ll quote a commentary that said “He raised up Pharaoh simply to show His power and He stooped to save us to do the same. So let it snow God, let it snow whenever, wherever, however You desire – use my life to glorify Your life and please give me an unshakable faith in order to not stumble on account of all that might entail. Keep my eyes on You, blizzard or no blizzard, expected or unexpected may You be glorified.
