Do The Hazzelelponi

My reading this morning took me much through the genealogies of people in the Bible and I told myself to stay focused, even though it’s not the middle of some dramatic story all Scripture is God-breathed and each name listed is a life God created for a purpose and had their name listed in the book of life for a reason. So as I read on, desperately wishing I was smarter than I am to make connections with the names listed, all of a sudden one in particular had me do a double take and go back to reread it… Hazzelelponi. Hazzelelponi right there in the middle of all these boy names 1 Chron. 4:3 says their sister was named Hazzelelponi. I thought if I could go back to being three years old again that just might be what I would have named all my stuffed animals! My dance background also makes me think it would be something someone would name a dance move… lets all do the Hazzelelponi!! Am I right?!! Anyway it intrigued me so I did some further research and guess what it means?! “You who turn to me”! Wow! Now I really want to do the Hazzelelponi and be someone who always turns to God. Interesting though that a few verses down it lists the prayer of Jabez (1 Chron. 4:9-10) This man was named sorrowful so you know he had to have had difficulties to overcome. However he was a man of prayer and cried out to God. He turned to the One who was bigger than all his difficulties and God granted his request. James 4:2 says, You do not have because you do not ask God. God continually asks us to turn to Him in prayer. Jeremiah 33:3 Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. Matt. 7:7 ask, seek and knock right! God loves you whether you pray or not but I think some blessings are only released through prayer. I think this because as you pray you develop a love relationship with God and through constant prayer God is able to conform your heart to be more like His and thus your desires for certain things are sometimes changed because you can see things more from His perspective. 1 Chron. 4:10 says Jabez cried out to the God of Israel. Israel is also the name of Jacob who had his name changed to Israel when he wrestled with God asking for His blessing too. Hosea 12:4 says he begged with tears. God answered and did bless Jacob. God changed his name to Israel which means “governed by God” Jacob from then on walked with a limp too. I think for us to really live we have to come to the end of ourselves, realize who we are not and Who He is. That we have greater strength when governed by God and sometimes we have to walk with a limp to keep us humbly realizing that. So lets do the Hazzelelponi and turn to Him and be people of prayer. That pray with a passion even when we don’t know exactly how or what to pray we know that the Spirit prays for us in groans words can not express (Rom. 8:26). Pray with a purpose.. a willingness (that if He should ask) to attempt something for God so big that if He is not in it, it will surely fail…I heard a quote that went something like if your goals are not scary, they are not big enough. To pray more for His Presence than the object of our current desired outcome. Protection too, I do pray that His eyes that roam the earth looking for hearts to strengthen those that are fully committed to Him (2 Chron. 16:9) would settle His eyes to rest on my heart as one of those to strengthen. It’s never to late to dance the Hazzelelponi my friends! No matter where you are that move of turning to Him can always be done. Let’s not delay!
