I’m walking along the beach really early in the morning close enough to the water that I can feel it splash around my ankles and as I go a gentle morning rain shower begins! How romantic the sound of the water splashing at my feet and the caress of morning dew drops running down my face as I pray my heart out to God just He and I. BANG BANG BANG, mom is it almost breakfast time?! The banging on the bathroom door and the cries of desperation bring me back to reality (oh the part about praying out my heart to God is all true) its just that part about the misty beach walk. In actuality we have 8 people in our team of a family and that equals 8 showers a day so that one tub, poor thing, takes quite a beating when it comes to the drain. We buy stock in Draino however that only goes so far…I did say we have a family of 8 right!?! So the other day my husband feels we need to take it up a notch and get the drain snake, (we already have one for the potty..another story for another time) so after dinner one evening (after dinner is that really the best time to take this project on?! I guess its better than before right!!) my husband announces its time to take on the tub drain! All six of our kiddos are whooping and hollering like it will be the event of the year and I am desperately hoping I can just stay down and clean up the dinner dishes. So upon taking up the drain snake my team heads up stairs with my man in the lead. I’ll do my best to spare you the nasty details however I can say there were many fighting the gag reflux all except our youngest he was right up along side my husband cheering him on in his best manly voice and each time my husband had to go down to the garage for a stronger yanking tool my little one would man cry “THIS IS EPIC!!!!!” Now I bet you are wondering how I will tie this one into the bible but oh just wait and see how God spoke to my heart through this one! Reading in Gen. 42:1 When Jacob learned that there was grain in Egypt, he said to his sons, “Why do you just keep looking at each other?” He continued. “I have heard that there is grain in Egypt. Go down there and buy some for us, so that we may live and not die.” -When I know what to do, just do it! I always have the freedom to choose my attitude right!?!! Anyway that reminded me of anther time God spoke to Joshua this time in kind of the same way…you already know what to do, do it! Joshua 7:7-12 The Israelites had harbored sin between themselves and God and were no longer defeating their enemies. Verse 7 Joshua asks why did you bring us across the Jordan, if only we would have just been content to stay where we were at! He goes on in verse 9 saying to God if all the bad guys get us what then will you do for Your great name? (I’m pretty sure God was not worried about His great name, nothing we could do will ever diminish His great name..He is bigger than all our mistakes. Praise Him for that!) But God responds in verse 10 Stand up! What are you doing down on your face? …skipping down to verse 12 God says I will not be with you anymore unless you destroy whatever among you is devoted to destruction. (No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. Matt. 6:24) verse 13 You cannot stand against your enemies until you remove it. The story goes on they do repent and God remains with Israel as they choose Him as their only God. But I was thinking as we cleaned out our bath tub drain that just like that pipe had to be cleaned out to drain properly, the pipeline of a love relationship between God and I has to be clear of any other idol that might clog or get in between Him and I having an intimate love relationship together. He has to be my number one. Now although I don’t think I’ll miss my imaginary walks on the beach with God in my tub I will ever be thankful each time it begins to clog up again and for each run out to the store for yet another bottle of Draino for it will remind me to check my own heart pipelines to that of my heavenly Father. Jesus be my number one, thank you that you love me with a jealous kind of love and that you desire to be King of my heart and I pray that no other god who could not possibly love me nearly as much as You would ever come before You in my heart and I thank you for my frequently clogged up bath tub drain that You have used to remind me that placing anything between us that is anything less than who You are and want to be to me should make me gag.
-Until next time, I wish the rest of your day to be blessed and gag free!
