A Fierce Kind Of Love

So please tell me everyone has had one of those days were three seemed to get shoved into one?! And it may have just been at the end of one of those days that we may have found ourselves pulling into the nearest fast food place (Chick fil A) to fill our hungry van full.. but in your exhausted delirious state of hunger you only make out the COW in their logo on the drive through menu and very sincerely ask the attendant if they sell any meals with CHICKEN (still trying to maintain some kind of health consciousness)? You then hear the soft chuckle of the polite Chick fil A attendant as she says (barely audible above the uproarious laughter of the entire contents of your fellow van riders) “Yes, if its CHICKEN we would like we have come to the right spot.” Oh such kindness and grace shown by that Chick fil A employee. (Hand slap to forehead..of course they sell CHICKEN at CHICK FIL A!!!!! Alas again reminded of glaring imperfections but one of the best qualities a person can have is the ability to take oneself lightly and laugh right!! There are days that come that are far from our best but to have the knowledge that even then, even at our very worst we are loved by Jesus with a fierce love that -no power in the sky above or in the earth below – indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:39
This beautiful picture was sent to me by a mother of one of the sweetest most precious little boys I know. He knows not to touch the lights on the Christmas tree but on this particular day in a fleeting moment of weakness the temptation go the best of him and he reached up to take a handful. When his mother came down stairs this is what she saw… the handful of lights disobediently pulled from the tree left a giant love shaped heart sized hole. Such a reminder of His inexhaustible love for us. I’m reminded of the tree in the garden of Eden when an apple was taken from the tree of life and sin first entered the world. God already had a rescue plan in mind to save us. So whenever I feel like I’ve been wronged or I want something and have been told no, that something that seems perfectly good is being withheld form me or when everything goes bad for a “good” person. Jesus lift my eyes to the tree on Calvary and remind me that, that is what I deserve…death on a cross and hell but You chose to take my place and offer me eternity in paradise. I only need to see that tree on Calvary as the backdrop to any situation and circumstances to know You are good…all the time. You want only the very best for me, You have paid for ALL wrong doing, and anything that comes to me has only come through the nail pierced hands that loved me enough to die for me. I need to trust You when you say in Duet. 29:29 the secret things belong to You and in 1 Cor. 13:12 right now I know in part; then I shall know fully…. to believe Isaiah 55:8-9 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. As the heavens are higher than than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. As J.B. Philips says “If God was small enough for me to figure out, He wouldn’t be big enough for me to worship.” So whether I’ve fallen into sin on my own accord or tragedy has befallen me for reasons unknown to me, Jesus keep my eyes on You. Lift my eyes to the tree on Calvary and give me Your perspective. The devil is out to steel kill and destroy but You have come that we might have life and have it to the full. John 10:10 I always have a choice… true love always involves a choice and we will all be held responsible one day for the choices we make, so today Lord lift my eyes to you and remember Psalm 118:24 This is the day the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. – because there is joy that You have overcome! And if like in Job 3:25 What I feared has come upon me what I dreaded has happened to me. – That I would maintain integrity (Job 2:3) that in all this, in all this, I would not sin I would not turn from God (Job 1:22, 2:10). Jesus fix my eyes on You and the tree atop Calvary. Give me a faith unshakable. To know that You forgive my past that I have a choice every moment I take a breath today to believe You are who You say You are, You will do what You say You will do, I am who You say I am, I can do all things through You and Your Word is alive and active in me. And it can be for anyone! For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever would believe in Him would not die but have eternal life. John 3:16 Choose to believe… we always have a choice and sin is waiting ready to devour us but we must master it (Gen. 4:7). So take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ (2 Cor. 10:5) And we can do so because Romans 8:11 says – The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you. WOW!! C.S Lewis was right that no other religion or philosophy provides unmerited, undeserved, unearned favor…only biblical Christianity says, its all grace, nothing more, nothing less, nothing else. – A fierce love that’s what Jesus has for all of us… will we choose to receive it… Come on! Lets take this moment He has given us right now and take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of us! (Phil.3:12)
