According to my 4 and 5 year old sons, our trip to the city dump yesterday was the most worthwhile 9 dollars spent all week!! I’ve never actually personally been before and somewhere between off roading (courtesy of a bent sign) and being in my bus of a van and yet still being the smallest vehicle by far on the road I found myself wondering why I didn’t wait for my husband to take this trip and why I thought I would be a good idea to try and fit this excursion in before story hour at the library!!?! Amidst the whoops and hollers of excited joy of my two boys I was encouraged to forge on to the top of the mountain of garbage after our off road adventure… after all we still had 20 minutes to story time. So upon cresting the butte among some of the largest construction trucks around I’m directed by who could only be the director the nice guy at the entrance told me to look for about a mile back…he stopped the large construction truck so that we could pull up to the mountain of garbage and manually empty our van of that which we wanted to discard. It does something to your heart when you have to actually take your garbage and add it to the mountain… convicting really… as I do my part to ruin the world for the next generation… I’m thinking I never, never want to use another non recyclable item again in my life! Today however upon entering my garage early this morning I was overwhelmed however at the thought that we could now possibly for the first time in years fit a small car inside.. well actually more like a small golf cart or something, squeezed between the 8 bikes and the treadmill but hey its the best its looked in some time!! Refreshing really.. I was reminded as I had great reservations climbing the hill to the crest of the dump that we have a Savior that calls us to approach His throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. (Heb. 4:16) No exceptions He welcomes us all! And like my cleaned out garage, when I confess all my sin He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9) Wow! His blood is thick and there is nothing it won’t cover..nothing! So it was interesting to me that after visiting the dump yesterday I opened my bible to read this morning in Job starting in chapter 28 and it talks about mining for precious gems… tunneling through the rock, eyes seeing all sorts of treasures (verse 10) but then in verse 12 and again in verse 20 Job asks but where can wisdom be found? Where does understanding dwell? Verse 23 Job says God understands the way to it and he alone knows where it dwells. – He alone. Well then I know where/Who to seek right!! Verse 28 The fear of the Lord – that is wisdom, and to shun evil that is understanding. – Fear of the Lord says You are awesome and gracious and good and in You are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Col.2:3) and I desperately need to start my day, walk through my day, and end my day with You. If I do not fear the Lord I will fear everything else…if I fear the Lord I will have nothing else to fear right! So one more pondering was brought to my mind from my trip to the dump (someday (hopefully) I’ll figure out how to pack more meaning into less words). Revelation 4:6 says Also before the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal. – Then in Micah 7:19 You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea. – Wow! Could that be the same sea at His throne?! That when we confess our sin, our garbage He hurls it into the dump…the sea of glass… of GLASS!! A sea of glass as no ripples no remembrance… Psalm 103:12 as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. -Super WOW! How gracious and merciful is our God! He is God and the fact that He chooses not to remember our sin, He could but He chooses not to… not to remember them once we confess and are cleanses by the blood of Jesus. We act on what we remember don’t we and I think that is why He allows us to remember our past sin although forgiven and made clean (like my clean garage now) then memory of what that sin did to me… remembering influences my actions to never go that way again… and that God chooses to not remember He is choosing the action of mercy and grace praise Him!! 1 John 1:7 “If we are in the light, as He is in the light..the blood of Jesus, His Son, cleanses us form all sin.” So thank you Jesus and please fill my eyes so full of love, Your love, that I have no room for condemnation and criticism and judgment of others. To love others as You have loved me. I want to be different, come and be the difference in me…Your love is something I never want to recover from. Come Jesus and finish the work that You started in me…and like the Micah Tyler song “Different” “I don’t want to hear anymore, teach me to listen, I don’t want to see anymore, give me a vision.” 2 Cor. 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
