For God has not given us a spirit of fear… 2 Timothy 1:7
God did not give it to us yet every human being struggles with it. Fear. The devil comes to steal, kill and destroy and place every seed of doubt in our heavenly Father that he can. He will do anything to keep you in your failure or from ever even trying in the first place. I mean, why not?! He knows his time is short so if he can keep you frozen in fear he neither has to worry about you or anyone else you might influence for Christ if you actually stepped out beyond your fear with the Almighty God! His job just got easier.
Why does fear hold such a grip on us? I believe its because we know ourselves all too well and yet not at all. God says over and over in the Bible – do not fear! Why? NOT because it will always work out as we planned, but because He promises to be with us! Heb. 13:5 I will never leave you nor forsake you. We fear because our focus is on self and not the One who is already victorious, the One bigger than our self, our situation or the circumstance.
So call me crazy but since fear seems to always be hanging out yet is not from God… lets just do that thing (that causes so much fear)… afraid. Just do it afraid. Knowing your not alone. Courage is not the absence of fear its bravery despite the fear. God calls us to be courageous (Joshua 1:9)! Why? Because He, the Almighty, promises to be with us even when we make mistakes, miss the mark, and feel a fool. He can work out all things for good if we allow Him. That’s hopeful right! This world is temporary we have heaven coming so there is always hope of a better start tomorrow!
Let’s start by shifting the focus from self to Jesus ability in us. He has already told us apart from Him we really can’t do it, but that nothing is impossible with Him. He doesn’t give fear but He does give power, love, a sound mind, and His presence. He promises to instruct, teach and counsel us along the way. Let’s cry out to Him and allow Him to tell us great and unsearchable things we do not yet know casting all our fears on Him because we know that He cares.
Lastly remember when you used to step on your dads feet as a child and he would hold you close as you walked around the house together… maybe you didn’t get that chance but know if you are reading this you have a heavenly Father pursuing you to do just that. Jesus, who died and rose again to be able to take you onto the dance floor with Him, unafraid. He is holding out His rock solid right hand to you. Don’t be afraid to place your trembling right hand in His. Focus on His peaceful eyes and take that first step. Just do it..afraid, yet together courageously. Letting His perfect love begin to cast out all your fear.
