A greedy man brings trouble to his family… Proverbs 15:27
The fire alarm has just been pulled… you have 60 seconds… what do you take? 1, 2…
Take this: In Joshua 6:18-19 God instructs the Israelites not to take anything from the victory at Jericho. Everything is sacred to the Lord and should go into his treasury. However Achan notices a beautiful robe, 200 shekels of silver and a wedge of gold weighing 50 shekels. He could not help himself but to take them as his own even though God has said not to.
What did Achan do with these beautiful and priceless things he had stolen?! Hid them in the dirty ground (Joshua 7:20-21)!! Isn’t that so like sin!! It entices us disguised as beauty but always brings us down and leaves us feeling like dirt! To say the least it did not end well for Achan and his family.
The kicker is in the very next victory after Jericho, God says in Joshua 8:2 You shall do to Ai and its king as you did to Jericho and its king, except that you may carry off their plunder and livestock for yourselves. WOW! EXCEPT THAT YOU MAY carry off the plunder for yourselves this time around!! If we would just understand that God would never ask us to give up the good if He didn’t have something better for us!
God help me to do it YOUR way – ALWAYS.
59, 60. GO!
