Day after day men came to help David, until he had a great army, like the army of God. 1 Chronicles 12:22
Something about the phrase “day after day” encourages me in the above verse. Little by little, day after day God strengthened David as he remained close to Him. Any situation I may find myself up against while I ask “why God?!” I think He whispers back “Because you are ready.” Not that we are always being prepared for the worst but rather we never face something that has not been filtered first through His mighty hand. If He has allowed it I can trust He has matured me enough, equipped me enough, to steward it well WITH Him. He promises He can turn all things for good, His glory and His grace will be sufficient.
Almost every time the Bible says “do not fear” it is coupled with the reasoning that He will be with us! We all have times of panic, worry, fear – even David I think. David says in Psalm 31:22 In my alarm I said, “I am cut off from your sight! Yet you hear my cry… Often in our alarm our first reaction can be irrational – David knew this and it may be why he adds in verse 24 Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord. Psalm 57:2 I cry out to God Most High, to God, who fulfills his good purpose for me. His GOOD purpose!! “Nothing can destroy the person whom God backs.”
Psalm 56:3, 11 When I am afraid, I will trust in you. In God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? “Worry is just thinking you know how your life should go and God is just not getting it right.” But Psalm 31:15 says our times are in His hands and Prov. 31:25 He clothes us with strength and dignity so that we can laugh at the days to come!
Dear Jesus, since You are my Rock and my fortress, for the sake of Your name, lead and guide me (Psalm 31:3). I know You have many things planned for me and I desire to do Your will (Psalm 40:5,8) Help me to remember that You are faithful and day after day You are with me and strengthening me, equipping me for all that You have planned. If You have called me up, I do not want to hide – I want to speak of Your faithfulness and salvation (Psalm 40:10) to all. So here I am Lord, keep keeping me by Your side, strengthening me, day after day.
