Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Romans 13:1
Ever feel like the wrong person is in charge? Or have you been in charge and everyone around feels they have been invited to tell you how to do your job better? We have all probably been in both situations at one time or another. However Romans 13:1 reminds me of Daniel 2:21 He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. Believing God is Sovereign I need to trust His authorship of authority. No one gains a leadership position apart from Him allowing it. So maybe instead of judging I need to be trusting.
Trusting in His selection of leadership, allowing Him to change my perspective and heart if needed. Maybe the person in charge is not the best in my opinion but maybe God is using the position to grow that person into more of who He designed them to be; maybe He is trying to work out in me, a more submissive, humble spirit.
A great quote I heard by Levi Lusco on the topic of respecting authority goes something like this, “You can’t be over what God wants to put under you, until you can be under that which He has placed over you.” In other words the best leaders are the best servants and God will choose to develop leaders anyway He chooses. Am I learning, submitting to what He’s trying to teach me in the position He has given me, or am I drawing out the lesson on repeat due to a selfish, judgmental spirit of entitlement?
