Then the men of Israel retreated, but he stood his ground…. the LORD brought about a great victory that day. 2 Samuel 9-10
The fire alarm has just been pulled… you have 60 seconds… what will you take? 1, 2…
Take this: stand your ground
No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength. A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save. But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine. Psalm 33:16-19
2 Samuel 23 tells about some of Davids mighty men like Eleazar. When all Israel retreated from the enemy, he stayed and stood his ground, putting his trust not in what is seen but what is unseen (2 Cor. 4:18). His confidence was not in himself or the size of his army but in God alone, who promised to stand by him (Deut. 31:6); the God who is able to save by many or by few (1 Samuel 14:6). That day God brought about a great victory through Eleazar! Knowing God is able against all odds, enables us to stand alone, yet firmly, when all our friends cave, retreat and desert us to follow the masses.
God is with you mighty warrior (Judges 6:12). So wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. Psalm 33:20-21
