And he struck down an Egyptian who was seven and a half feet tall. Although the Egyptian had a spear like a weaver’s rod in his hand, Benaiah went against him with a club. He snatched the spear from the Egyptians hand and killed him with his own spear. 1 Chronicles 11:23
The fire alarm has just been pulled… you have 60 seconds… what do you take? 1, 2…
Take this: Although the odds are great, God is greater.
I don’t know what giant you might be facing today but maybe it seems like it’s seven and a half feet tall. Not only that but it may also seem to be armed with a spear, and not just any spear, but a spear like a weaver’s rod no less!! To top it all off you may look at your circumstances and situation, everything you are up against and it may seem like all you have on your side is a wimpy club to defend yourself, a small stick really. Hopeless.
Take heart!! God is with you mighty warrior (Judges 6:12)! He who is in you is greater than He who is in the world (1 John 4:4). 1 Chron. 11:23 doesn’t say Benaiah wasn’t afraid, possibly worried he may not make it out alive; it says “although” the odds were against him, he went against the odds. Benaiah chose courage despite fear because even if he died the God who would fight this battle with him, never leaving his side, was greater than death (1 Cor. 15:55); even in death God could work out new life for His glory!! Nothing but hopeFUL!
You can fight mighty warrior, from victory not for victory; remember the cross! Do not focus on the odds but Who defies the odds, not what is in your hand but Who’s hand you are in.
