Later, Jehoshaphat king of Judah made an alliance with Ahaziah king of Israel, who was guilty of wickedness. 2 Chronicles 20:35
Why was he guilty of wickedness? Well it didn’t help that his mother encouraged him in doing wrong (2 Chronicles 22:3) and verse 4 says after his fathers death his advisers led to his undoing! Jehoshaphat didn’t make out too well either joining up with Ahaziah. Actually their entire project together was ship wrecked! Literally! (2 Chronicles 20:37)
We all have influence. We all are influenced. Who are we allowing access to our hearts and minds? Are we speaking Truth, Light and love into those we have been given influence over, maybe even we think they do not deserve it? A believer in Jesus does not deserve eternal life and forgiveness but we have it freely. Jesus gives us the power to give that kind of love away freely too if we will let go of our pride long enough to soften to the imprint of His image on our lives.
If we are not intentionally aware of our influence and who we allow to influence us, and if we do not take ourselves and what we have heard to The Truth – God’s Word, we will fall to and follow and sink into any lie the world tells us. A lie by definition is a disguise, a trick, a false truth. Why would people lie if the truth were always obvious to everyone?
Let’s be intentional about seeking and speaking the Truth. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. John 8:32 Remember God found you valuable enough to die for… so when choosing who you hang out with, make alliances with… well, lets just say it like my dad always used to say it… “Don’t flock with the chickens when you can fly with the eagles.”
