And though a tenth remains in the land, it will again be laid waste. But as the terebinth and oak leave stumps when they are cut down, so the holy seed will be the stump in the land. Isaiah 6:13
A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him- the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD- Isaiah 11:1-2
The word “branch” is capitalized in Isaiah 11:1 because it is the word “netser” in Hebrew which is the word from which we get “Nazarene”. Nazareth was the town Mary and Joseph raised Jesus. Ultimately this verse points to Jesus as our hope.
Has there been something cut down in your life, something that seems dead, nothing but a stump left to remind you of past failure? Jesus is the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in Him will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in Him will never die. Do you believe this? (John 11:25-26).
Jesus has resurrection power but you can’t resurrect something that hasn’t died. Like a broken bone sometimes it heals incorrectly and needs to painfully be re-broken and reset in order to grow back right; stronger.
Sometimes we have to be cut down, broken in order to be made stronger. Pruning hurts but its better than being left alone. (John 15:1-2) Isaiah 11:2 says when the Spirit of God rests on us He brings wisdom, understanding, counsel and power! Luke 11:13 says the Holy Spirit comes to all who ASK!
The enemy wants to use your stumps to discourage you but Jesus wants you to see your stumps through the hope and resurrection power of His Spirit at work within you!
