“Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18:3
Have you ever listened to a young child’s prayer? It’s an endless list of things they are grateful for. Everything else has no need of mention because with out a shadow of a doubt Jesus has the whole world in His hands and nothing, nothing is too hard for Him. Jesus commends this kind of faith. How come we tend to lose this as we grow up? God didn’t change, the same God that held us as a child is holding us as an adult.
Could it be that pride thing?! We think we can or should handle things… News Flash! There is a God and we are NOT it! We’re not God of our jobs, marriages, children, friendships… Scripture says the government is on HIS shoulders – He is the one who turns hearts and grows the seeds. No matter how many fits we throw we won’t gain that kind of power.
Isaiah 7:4 says, be careful, keep calm and don’t be afraid. Do not lose heart because of these two smoldering stubs…. Do you have any “smoldering stubs” in your life? Things that shake your heart? Isaiah 7:2 says -the peoples hearts were shaken as the trees of the forest are shaken by the wind. God help me take hold of the child-LIKE faith I once had! “If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.” Isaiah 7:9
He has already given us a sign of His faithfulness… Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign…. Emmanuel! Which means God with us!! He Himself came as the sign that He is faithful and ALWAYS with us!
The next time I’m tempted to have a child-ISH fit because of “smoldering stubs”, not getting what I want or think I deserve, Lord help me to remember You as Emmanuel. Sent to earth as a child who gave up everything You DID deserve on heaven and on earth… for me. Thank you for being the ultimate Father that loves me through my fits remembering I am but dust as you continue to show me how much You desire to put Your treasure in this earthly cracked clay pot. I’m so grateful that due to your grace and mercy, whether I’m acting child-ish or child-like I can still be Your child. Praise You Father that you love me as I am but too much to leave me that way.
Today help me choose child-LIKE faith as all those stubs smolder around me. Wrap me up in Your faithful loving arms as I rest knowing that You are God and I am not.
