Whoever touches you touches the apple of his eye – Zechariah 2:8
In a desert land he found him, in barren and howling waste. He shielded him and cared for him; he guarded him as the apple of his eye, like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young, that spreads its wings to catch them and carries them on its pinions. Deuteronomy 32:10-11
How do we tell the world God is good when so many are hurting and tragedies abound? First of all we can’t in and of ourselves.
1 Corinthians 2:12-14 We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Ephesians 6:19 Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel
1 Corinthians 6:19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own
When we begin to realize that anything good, any positive influence for His Kingdom will not come from us but from that which is WITHIN us -Jesus- as Zechariah 4:6 says, Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the LORD Almighty. Only then will we truly see those mighty mountains in our way become level ground! (Zechariah 6:7)
As a mother who loves her children without bounds when someone takes the time to breathe into them the life giving love of Jesus my heart becomes tied to that individual. No “thank you” will ever be enough, I will continually find myself desiring to do kind things for that person. Might it be similar to our Heavenly Fathers heart toward us when we are found in love with His Son Jesus?! (Read Zechariah 3)
Satan stands as an accuser (Rev. 12:10) whispering lies continually into our ears and then stands before God as a tattle tail making sure God knows the truth about us and how deeply we all fall short. Yet the Lord rebukes him and says (Zechariah 3:2) Is not this man a burning stick snatched from the fire? Intriguing isn’t it that the text doesn’t say mighty oak it says stick, He saves even a lousy stick that would accept the love of His Son Jesus! He removes our filthy clothes and replaces them with rich garments of forgiveness, grace and mercy! (Zech. 3:3-5) So great a love!!
You might feel like a lousy stick sometimes but God calls you the apple of His eye and sent His only Son Jesus to make a way for you to be with Him eternally! This is good news that He has called us, mere “sticks” to share His love poured out on and through us into this dark and desperately hurting world.
Just like the little boy that shared his small lunch of 2 small fish and 5 loaves of bread with Jesus and 5000+ were fed! (John 6:1-14) Jesus wants to use YOU, don’t let Satan talk you down! Today will we trust that which is WITHIN us to be stronger than that which is in the world?! (1 John 4:4) And not become discouraged or despise beginnings that seem small. (Zech 4:10) God uses the small things of this world to do mighty things in His strength. (1 Corinthians 1:27).
It’s easy to become overwhelmed or brought to a seemingly hopeless standstill as we face the challenges of this world but remember you are the apple of His eye! Chosen to share His love, His goodness, His faithfulness with those far from Him. Let’s place our trust in Him not in our own abilities or lack there of and live the great adventure He planned for us before the creation of the world!
