And he said to the people of Israel, “When your children ask their fathers in times to come, ‘what do these stones mean?’, then you shall let your children know. ‘Israel passed over the Jordan on dry ground.'” Joshua 4:21
I was asked this week to think about how I worship. As I was listing ways in my head I came across Psalm 106:1-2 Praise the LORD. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. Who can proclaim the mighty acts of the LORD or fully declare his praise? I thought that’s right! Who can fully declare His praise… I will run out of moments before I run out of ways I can praise and worship Him!
Reading further I hit Psalm 106:13-14 But they soon forgot what he had done and did not wait for his counsel. In the desert they gave in to their craving; in the wasteland they put God to the test. It’s so easy to worship and praise Him when all is well but when we feel like we are in the desert or the wasteland… then not so much.
Interesting what it says in Romans 1:21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. How sad! And to think that quite possibly some of my desert/wasteland times might even have stemmed from allowing my mind to become futile and my foolish heart darkened due to forgetting to acknowledge Him even in the good times of life?! To give honor worship and praise to the One Who is really blessing us?!
I was reminded of Joshua 4:21 and how the Israelites experienced a miracle from God and they were told to set down stones in order to never forget or let the next generation forget the faithfulness, the goodness of our God. We want to build up our faith and that of the next generation. One way that happens is through the stones of remembrance! When God reveals His faithfulness in the big and small ways of your life record and share them!!! Give yourself and others an opportunity to praise and worship Him for His goodness over and over again! Remember we will run out of moments before we fully can declare His praises – grateful we will have eternity to keep at it!!
Praise You Jesus! May we all find ways to praise and worship Who You are today, and help us to set up stones of remembrance for the next generation as we do, so that the whole world may know You (John 17:23)!!
Let’s get stackin’!!
