When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I was not aware of it.” He was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven.” Genesis 28:16-17
Amazing what one little shift in one little letter can do… ‘No Where’ becomes ‘NoW here’ with one letter move. The phrase meaning is entirely changed, almost opposite. Do you think when Jacob awoke from his sleep God arrived? No God had always been there it was just at that moment that Jacob realized His presence. God is always moving, Jesus said to them, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.” John 5:17
When we can’t feel His presence and He seems to be ‘No Where’ we need to remember that for every place He has a purpose and for every purpose He has a promise… And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28:20 So if we haven’t reached the end of the age He is not ‘No Where’ He is ‘NoW here’! “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5
Jacob started in an uncomfortable, undesirable situation, he was using a rock for a pillow. Maybe you have found yourself in similar circumstances. Jacob however allowed God to flip his perspective (his ‘W’ to shift a little). Verse 17 says he was afraid and isn’t fear just the flip side of faith?! Though Jacob was afraid he saw that place now had a purpose, he saw it as a gate. Maybe that circumstance in which we feel we have a rock for a pillow, that place we feel fear… maybe it has a purpose, maybe it’s a gateway to enable us to see God’s goodness and faithfulness in ways we have never known before! Will we allow Him to move our ‘W’?
Jesus, thank you for always being with us, for having a purpose and a plan far beyond our own that cannot be thwarted. A plan to give us a hope and a future. A purpose to bring us into Your Kingdom to be with You forever where there is no death or sickness or sadness. We do believe Jesus, help us overcome our unbelief as we ask for ever increasing trust in You all the way to the very end of the age. Please give us mold-able hearts that will allow You to shift our ‘W’, our perspective, so that where at first appears to only be a rock pillow, we might actually see a gate into which we might discover more of Who You want to be to us that we had never known before. Give us eyes to see and ears to hear that You in fact are ‘NoW here’ and that in actuality, You never left.
