The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take of the free gift of the water of life. Revelation 22:17
“Free gift of the water of life…” FREE, yet so many have not received it yet?!
You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. Matthew 5:13
Are we living in a way that makes others thirst for Jesus inside us? Do they even know we have Jesus in us? How? Do we have faith to forgive when they are not even sorry? Do we give even when its us that are owed?
There is a reason Luke 17:5, (The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!”) follows verses 3 and 4! We are called to forgive beyond what the world would say is reasonable. For that we need salty faith! Faith to believe that we can give forgiveness because we too were forgiven when we did not deserve it (Romans 5:8) and faith to believe Romans 12:19-21, that we are not to take revenge but to leave room for God’s wrath, nothing goes unnoticed by our Heavenly Father. However we are to remain salty and not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Now take a moment to read Matthew 17:24-27. This passage is a good reminder to not let consequential matters create a stumbling block to faith for someone else. In this passage although Jesus is saying that Peter belongs to His royal Kingdom not to the earthly kingdom of which tax was being collected they should pay, so that those who might not yet be believers would not be caused to stumble on their road to faith over their confusion on seeing them refuse to pay. They gave even when they really didn’t need to for the sake of others.
I find it an astounding reminder as well that when Jesus said they should pay the tax they didn’t really owe in concern for others He Himself supplied provision for the need!!! …Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours. Matthew 17:27 Wow! His ways are so far above ours! When you feel like you are losing your salty faith, remember its Him that supplies all your need… you take that step of faith to forgive, to give when you don’t owe or whatever you need to take Him on faith in order to remain salty in this world and you can believe He will supply all that you need to bring glory to His name and His Kingdom even if He has to bring it out of the mouth of a fish!!
If you fear you have lost your saltiness I think the prodigal son can relate…
I am no longer worthy to be called your son… Luke 15:19 But look at the fathers response to a truly repentant heart! …he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. Luke 15:20 Verse 32 continues in a conversation between the boys father and the boys brother… we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again –ALIVE AGAIN! Jesus can make dead things fill with life; He is able to fill empty salt shakers with salt once again.
Today lets start being so salty in our faith in Jesus that everyone everywhere we go is becoming thirsty, dehydrated even, so that no “water” this world offers will satisfy only the Living Water of Jesus, in which we can then pour out in abundance over them so that they will never thirst again, for all eternity!
