Then Thomas (called Didymus) said to the rest of the disciples, “Let us also go that we may die with him.” John 11:16
This is the same Thomas known as doubting Thomas. Looks like he was also capable of incredible devotion and courage! Have you ever let one thing, one failure, one unkind remark become what defines you?
We have a God that wants to renew our minds with the Truth He speaks over us! Might we give Him, the One who created us the single authority at being the ultimate deciding factor on what or how we are defined!
Mark 14:72 states, Immediately the rooster crowed the second time. Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows twice you will disown me three times.” And he broke down and wept. HE BROKE, gosh have you been there? Just broke over a failure, a misstep?! Peter was broken over his betrayal of Jesus but what is said just after Jesus is raised from the dead three days later?! Mark 15:7 states that an angel at the tomb said, But go, tell his disciples and Peter... AND PETER! Jesus knew Peter was broken over his mistake but Jesus longed for him to understand He still had love and a purpose for Peter!! Because of what Jesus had just accomplished on the cross there is now hope for all of us who have been broke!!
Who the Son sets free is free indeed so why do so many of us still live like we have no choice but to walk around as failures?! Maybe we needed the breaking so that He could build on a more solid foundation. If He doesn’t break away all that isn’t of Him, our pride our self reliance… as soon as He starts building we will crumble anyway! The foundation of our lives must be The Rock alone, building upon anything else is going to cause us to sink.
Jesus knew all our sinful ways past, present and future and still chose to go to the cross for us! He did not and has not given up on us so we would do well to allow Him room to take our brokenness and rebuild a solid foundation upon which He can use to bring Him much glory!
Jesus, help us to remember the depth of Your unfailing love, to not discredit Your sacrifice by thinking we failed beyond what Your blood could cover! That’s a lie straight from the enemy! You died to reconcile us to you; then to go out and share that message with others as we strive to live at peace with everyone! Help us believe the Truth You speak over our lives and may we walk in the freedom and love You died to make known to us! Praise the mighty name of Jesus! Our living hope!
