The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off – for all whom the Lord our God will call. Acts 2:39
Someone was recently relaying to me that as a people watcher he noticed there is a definite difference between the mannerisms of a person on stand-by at the airport and someone who has a confirmed ticket. He is right. You can imagine the person on stand-by isn’t leaving the area to get a quick snack or make a last minute run to to restroom…. no, they are pacing back and forth hoping, wondering what their fate will be… will they make the plane or not, and how will that effect their future plans and appointments?!
As Christians we should be living life in the freedom and joy of a confirmed ticket holder!! How often do we slip back into the way of the world, stand-by status? Worrying, wondering instead of moving forward in faith and trust in our God.
I’m reminded of a birthing room… the infant is yanked from a warm cozy place into the freezing cold sterile environment, held upside down, spanked to cry… it must seem completely awful and confusing, yet little does that baby know, everyone in the room is FOR him! With a confirmed ticket, which is believing in Jesus as God and Savior of our lives things can swirl out of our control and understanding and we can know with a conviction, confidence and a peace that passes the worlds understanding that our God is good and loves us and is in control. We can trust Him because He understands things we can’t and knows things we don’t. (Romans 8:28) If He is for us who can be against us! (Romans 8:31)
When the ladies were going to anoint the body of Jesus in Mark 16, verse 3 states their worry as they walked… and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away form the entrance of the tomb?” Too often before I even come up against a certain situation I find myself worrying over it – such is “stand-by” living! But look at verse 4! But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. WOW, isn’t that just like our God! Yes their concern was valid… the stone was in the way the last time they saw it, yes it was very large… BUT our God is BIGGER and STRONGER! Look again at what the beginning of verse 4 says the women did…. LOOKED UP! When we choose to fix our eyes on Him the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2) we put Him in between our concern and our heart/mind and that’s when we can take a sigh of relief, taking hold of the conviction that He whom God backs cannot be shaken, and the confidence that He is in control, and a peace that passes understanding floods our souls as we remember our confirmed ticket to eternity! Our world doesn’t end here!
A confirmed ticket says this world is a bad as it will ever get… stand-by status says this world is as good as it’s ever going to get. How do you want to live today? In confirmed ticket status or stand-by? Jesus has already paid the price for your confirmed ticket you just have to believe and receive. (John 3:16)
