…be prepared in season and out of season… 2 Timothy 4:2
There are many Scriptures that tell us God’s eyes are on us (Job 31:4, Jeremiah 16:17, Zechariah 4:10, Hebrews 4:13) For the eyes of the LORD move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His. 2 Chronicles 16:9 He is looking for the ready. Are you ready?
John 19:25-27 tells us of a moment that Jesus looks down from the cross and forms a family between John, (who the Scripture says was standing near by the cross) and His mother Mary. Jesus didn’t form the family with Peter, or Matthew… He chose John, he was the one near by and ready!
In Acts 6:1-7 there seemed there were more needs to be met than they had people assigned to meet them so verse 3 states, Brothers, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them… that said choose 7 men WHO ARE KNOWN to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. These seven men could not have prepared on the spot for this particular opportunity. These men had to be living day in and day out with hearts fully devoted to our God just because they loved Him. When the need arose for hearts full of His Spirit and wisdom God directed the minds of the brothers to those whose hearts were near Him and ready to be strengthened by Him for His service. Are we preparing diligently out of season, reading His Word daily, praying sincerely, longing to know Him more today than then last? Will we be ready?
Men at war cannot build their weapon in the fox hole and think that it’s an efficient way to do combat. You must enter the fox hole well trained and fully equipped if you are to have any hope of survival. In our weakness He is strong so we need not fear our own inadequacy when we feel we have been called up by Him. He promises to be our strength and to never leave us but we must have hearts soft enough toward Him to receive that strength, peace and confidence He provides. He needs to know we will trust Him and put our faith in Him when we fall short in our humanness. How can we do this if we don’t know Him? The Word of God is the sword of the Spirit… are you welding your weapon?
Jesus help us to crave You more today than the last. We want to be ready… in season and out.
