But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him. 2 Corinthians 2:14
Leads us in TRIUMPH! That through us the fragrance of the knowledge of Him would spread everywhere!! What a privilege, what an honor, what joy to bear witness to Jesus, to spread a passion for the supremacy of Christ in all things! John Piper says, God will be most glorified in you when you are most satisfied in Him.
Is Jesus your highest desire? Are you so satisfied in Christ that no suffering could take your joy in Him away? “Living like that makes Jesus look great, and you, still get the joy!” What a life, what a witness, right!
But joy in suffering?! Yes joy! Maybe not the happy birthday kind of joy but a joy that stems from the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, from ETERNAL encouragement and of GOOD hope in all things (2 Thess. 2:16-17, 2 Cor. 1:3)!
I believe the strongest witness we can have for Jesus is our faith. As we make every effort to grow in our relationship with Him through reading His Word and through prayer and asking the Holy Spirit to ignite within us a passion for Him that cannot be contained, God Himself will lead us into opportunities of all kinds in which we can bare witness for Him through the way we live out our faith. We can trust that He will supply all our needs for every situation – fix your eyes, mind and heart on Him alone, and let Him who leads in triumph take the lead.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
(Surrounded by a GREAT cloud of witnesses… witnesses to their faith in a God that is true!!! When we are gone nothing but the faith we left behind in Jesus will be remembered. Do we witness with a memorable faith?! A faith that will surround others like a cloud, wrapping them up in encouragement?! When their lungs are burning and the head wind is great and the race seems impossible to finish, will our faith shout “YOU STILL CAN!!!!!”? When WE mess up, will our faith shout that to US!? Someone is always watching, watching for constancy of faith, and as humans we will make mistakes so will they see us witness to a God that is bigger than mistakes and offers forgiveness and second chances through repentance?)
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. Hebrews 12:2-3
(The JOY set before Him!?! Yes He endured the suffering for what was on the other side, a joy that can not be found in this world but is of the next… His eternal Kingdom and He endured the cross so that we could be there with Him!! So remember Jesus and do not lose faith or grow weary, do not lose heart! Take the strength He offers and throw off the things of this world that so EASILY entangle us!)
You sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions. Hebrews 12:34 JOYFULLY accepted … because you KNEW God has something better! How do you know? FAITH!! Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1 So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. Hebrews 12:35
Moses didn’t throw away his confidence. By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time. He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward. Hebrews 11:24-26
Pleasures of this earth are fleeting and last only a short while in light of eternity. Are we willing to throw off all that would hinder our faith not only on the hill tops but also in the valleys of this life on our race to the finish? Jesus showed us how, by clinging to the joy that can only be found in Him. Because… as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”– the things God has prepared for those who love him– 1 Corinthians 2:9
Jesus be our one highest desire that You might produce with our lives a great witness for You and Your glory. Help us to follow in You in triumphal procession constantly in and out of every situation and circumstance, that through us might spread everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of You.
