Some smiles can only be captured post tragedy, but they sure remind me of the joy we have when we are set free in Jesus! Let me explain, although for some things a mother of six finds herself experiencing, there is just no logical explanation!
It’s never a dull moment raising 6, that’s for sure… from finding bodies self bathed in toothpaste to heads stuck in child training potty seats to tonight’s fiasco of fingers stuck up in a bug sucking pistol! (I’ll just stop the list there for now.)
So here we are having a nice (I’ll use the word, civilized, loosely) family (of 8 ) dinner this evening when one of our children comes quietly to my side with big crocodile tears streaming down his cheeks as he holds up the bug sucker, that as I served him his dinner I told him needed to reside UNDER his chair for the duration of the meal…however… when one feels they have had enough fish to eat the next best thing is to stick your finger up a hole for bugs right?!?!?! Because this sounds like a good dinner table activity to you too right!?!
I think God looks at me similarly and thinks, child I am rooting for you to make it to My banqueting table but what am I to do if you keep deviating from what I say… when I say, “Don’t.” I really mean, “Don’t hurt yourself child!!”
So as I gaze at this precious child of mine, body pressed into me, crocodile tears streaming now not so quietly down his face with the newly attained extended appendage flailing, I think to myself, well the apple sure doesn’t fall far from the tree! However at this point I’ve lived long enough and made more than my share of enough mistakes to know what my Heavenly Father does with me when I find myself “stuck” in self inflicted tragedies, so I followed suit.
My child was obviously remorseful and desperately in need of saving (sooooo been there)! So what could I do but fold that child in close as we hobbled over to the sink together to douse cold water over this fiery trial as we began working through it together. (A half bottle of lubricating soap didn’t hurt either!)
As we worked it free these Truths ran through my head….Hosea 11:4 I led them with cords of human kindness, with ties of love. To them I was like one who lifts a little child to the cheek, and I bent down to feed them. Eph. 5:26 …to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word. John 8:36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. Romans 6:22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.
Have you seen the sparkle in the eyes of one set free?!! There is nothing like it, praise the mighty saving name of Jesus!
God bless. May you experience His freedom today too!
