Alarmed, Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the LORD… 2 Chronicles 20:3
James 1:2 states, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. When was the last time you ran into trouble and your reaction was, “Oh yah! What an opportunity for great joy!!”? Honestly I can’t remember either; but what might I be missing out on not responding in this way?
Romans 8:28-29 states God can work all things for good according to His purpose which is to conform us to the likeness of His Son. Also lets look at 2 Timothy 1:9 which states, He has saved us and called us to a holy life-not because of anything we have done but because of His own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time
His purpose and grace… purpose in Greek is prothesis and the opposite in Greek is metanoia which translates repentance, change of mind. So cool that He hasn’t changed His mind about lavishing His grace on you and I in Jesus since before the beginning of time! Truly AMAZING GRACE, AMAZING LOVE!
The next time we are alarmed or quite possibly shocked at the trial we find ourselves up against might we remember the greater shock which is that Jesus gave His life so that His purpose for our lives before the beginning of time might not be thwarted! If that doesn’t drop us to our knees and resolve us to take the opportunity for great joy in watching God wildly work in our lives and the lives of our loved ones however He purposes in His great love and grace what will!?!!
Talk about wildly working… reading through the rest of 2 Chronicles 20 is such a treat to see God mightily inhabit the praises of His people! The army led out only armed with a choir singing songs of praise! Now that’s wild worship! Yet isn’t it faith that is released through worship and faith is what opens the door for God to work!
Next time we find ourselves up against a shocking trial we can remember to fix our eyes on Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith and declare with great joy I will not be shook!
Job 42:2 I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted.
