The Challenge Of The Blessing

2019-10-09 15.21.09

Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Hebrews 10:23

What is the point of a safety pin? To secure one thing to another…safely, right?! A push pin could do the same job but the “safety” pin was invented in order to keep people from injury and to ensure security, the sharp pin point can be pushed into that enclosed compartment providing protection and prevent the pin from dislodging and getting lost.

Keep the safety pin image in mind as we trip through the scriptures here.

So in Exodus 3:7-8 God says, I have certainly seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their cries of distress because of their harsh slave drivers. Yes, I am aware of their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them from the power of the Egyptians and lead them out of Egypt into their own fertile and spacious land. It is a land flowing with milk and honey- the land where the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites now live.

Hmmm, sounds great God if we could have stopped at the milk and honey part but, ahhh… You just listed 6 giant enemy nations that are already there. Thank You for thinking of us and all, but we may need to think this one through again….

Anyone relate to a blessing with a challenge?!

If we trip to Numbers 13:12-33 we see the scouting report from the 12 guys sent out by Moses to check out this promised land flowing with milk and honey. Joshua and Caleb declare with God on their side they can take the land! Verse 31, Let’s go at once to take the land…we can certainly conquer it! The other 10 spies having observed the very same situation, state in verse 33, We even saw giants there, the descendants of Anak. Next to them we felt like grasshoppers, and that’s what they thought too!

10 spies “nay” to 2 spies “yay”. Good golly, isn’t it true when faced with a challenge we can come up with a much longer list of reasons why we should just step back rather than step up?!!

Interesting isn’t it, that sentence in verse 33… we felt like grasshoppers, and that’s what they thought too! I don’t know if I just missed it but I couldn’t find anywhere where the spies sat down with the giants and asked them what they thought of them?!!!

2 Corinthians 10:5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

How are we doing with captivating our thoughts to the things above, toward God confidence?

Hebrews 10:35 So do not throw away your confidence, it will be richly rewarded.

I love Deut. 7:1-2 When the LORD your God brings you into the land... OOOH so the LORD is going to do it! …he will clear away many nations ahead of you... OOOH so HE WILL clear the way! …These nations are greater and more numerous than you. OOOH so He ALREADY knew about our challenge and planned provision accordingly?!! When the LORD your God hands these nations over to you… OOOH so WHEN not IF!! ...and you conquer them... WHAT did that say?! Get squashed like grasshoppers cuz that’s what everyone thinks we are anyway?! No it says we CONQUER them, because in Jesus we are more than conquerors (Rom. 8:37)!!!

He is faithful even when we are not (2 Tim. 2:13)! So as Heb 10:23 tells us to hold tightly to Him might we choose the safety pin approach and allow the dangerous end of the pin, the challenge, that threatens to keep us from the blessing to be tucked into His trusting care. He is able dear one. Joshua 24:8 states, Finally, I brought you into the land…

Those who choose to hold tightly to Jesus WILL finally receive the promise of eternal life.

Jude 1:24 Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault. We can let our sharp pin challenges hang out as we try to go it alone and risk injuring ourselves and everyone around us or we can tuck into Him who is faithful.

Let’s pray to trust Him with the scary sharp point of our challenges. We all want to arrive safely at the blessing… after all, we are not of those who shrink back. Heb. 10:39
