Of course, your former friends are surprised when you no longer plunge into the flood of wild and destructive things they do. So they slander you. (5) But remember… 1 Peter 4:4-5
A wild encouragement is found between Genesis chapter 7 and chapter 8! 7 ends with, (24) And the floodwaters covered the earth for 150 days. (BUMMER) But chapter 8 opens with, (1) But God remembered… Hallelujah!! The rest of that verse states, He sent a wind to blow across the earth, and the floodwaters began to recede. The word for “wind” here is the same word translated “Spirit” in Gen. 1:2.
Have you been in a “flood” a waiting period perhaps for so long you feel like it’s quite possible you’ve been forgotten?
There was an article in the New York Times that said that the feelings of isolation can have the same physical effects as if you smoked 15 cigarettes a day!! This is a serious condition to feel alone, forgotten, isolated.
Noah showed great faith in persevering in God’s timing. Even after the flood waters had receded he knew the earth was not yet ready for him to leave the boat and though he had been in that ark for a year he continued to wait with patient eagerness in God. He sent out a bird almost weekly looking forward to the moment God would issue a “Go!”
Don’t you think Noah battled the doubt and fear that God had forgotten him too?! That he may be stuck on this ark F-O-R-E-V-E-R! I mean he wasn’t getting any younger! 8:13 records Noah now 601 years old!! He quite easily could have rationalized just throwing in the towel at this point right! But no he did not, he persevered and through him God preserved the human race and lived to be 950, amen!
When God thought up your life He saw a wrong that needed righting in the world, He saw a song that needed to be written, He saw a program that needed to start to shine Him more brightly… He thought up an idea and through YOUR life He wants to do it!
Are we willing to remain faithful in the waiting or the floodwaters that seem to rage on not making a whole lot of sense, and trust that what He started He will finish (Phil. 1:6). Even when it seems He has forgotten will we choose to trust His faithfulness and KNOW He has NOT forgotten (Psalm 46:10)!
God says, When I see the rainbow in the clouds, I WILL REMEMBER the eternal covenant between God and every living creature on earth. Gen. 9:16 (emphasis mine)
Jesus is coming back. Do not become weary in the waiting in the persevering. To finish our opening verse in 1 Peter 4:4-5 (5) But remember that they will have to face God, who will judge everyone, both the living and the dead. (Verses 12-13) Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you. Instead, be very glad-for these trials make you partners with Christ in his suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world.
You are not alone. You are not forgotten.
2 Timothy 4:18 Yes, and the Lord will deliver me from every evil attack and will bring me safely into his heavenly Kingdom. All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.
