Be The Star

The wise men could have been too distracted, side tracked… I mean after all, Matthew 2:9 (NLT) states, After this interview the wise men went their way… These guys had just had an interview with the big wig King Herod!

Now, can any of us relate to being a bit distracted or side tracked during the Christmas season!? Whether it’s some big interview or just trying to make sure everything on your list has a tidy little check mark next to it, I think it’s safe to say the enemy doesn’t have to take us out of the “game” to make us ineffective for the Kingdom… he just needs to distract us!

I love that the wise men were NOT distracted by the interview with the big guy Herod. No, they were able to keep their heads in the game! But how?!?!

Matt. 2:9 And the star they had seen in the east guided them to Bethlehem. So they must have had their eyes focused UP and not looking around for the next best thing!

Can you just imagine now-a-days if the wise men had gotten too caught up in the comparison rat race only to find that all that time taking selfies with ol’ King Herod just cost them their greatest “post” of all time… there would be no wise men listed in God’s Word!!

How sad that would have been when these Magi were most likely a legacy of the Jews transported to Babylon years before. They knew Daniel 9:25… Who and when to look for Jesus. They did not know exactly where to look, as that is what they were asking of Herod. (Matt. 2:2)

God is faithful and always provides for His purpose so the star He placed in the sky was available to lead them in what He knew they did not know! God is just so good! Let’s not waste His purpose for our life building our own picture of how we think our life should go.

2:9-11 This star then, It went ahead of them and stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

The Lord was faithful and they trusted Him one step at a time. They could not see the destination but they saw Him on their path and that was enough. Is it enough for you?

Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. Psalm 119:105

The star is what God used to get those wise men’s attention during that busy season.  Maybe He wants to use YOU as a “star” in the life of someone else. Maybe God wants to use YOU like He did the star so that someone else can be led to Him.

Exodus 35:26 states, All the women who were willing used their skills… Now this is in reference to building the Tabernacle but it hits home in my heart because it doesn’t say, all the exceptionally talented women… no, it says all who were WILLING used their skills!

You and I have been given skills to use for His glory. What stirs your heart? What ability do you have that you could use to show someone Jesus… do you have a smile to share, a voice to say “hello”? How can you use what God has stirred in your heart to notice someone else for Him? Like the star, who’s attention can you grab for Him? Are you willing?

What happened when the wise men saw the star? (Hint: verse 10) They were filled with JOY! Don’t miss your greatest “post” of all time, USE your God given skill so others will notice and see that El Roi, the God who sees, notices THEM, loves THEM so much He gave His life for theirs and rose again! (John 3:!6). Now that’s true joy. Are you willing to bring it?

He made you to shine.

Be the star.
