Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! “Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?” Romans 11:33-34
If there is one phrase that seems to be echoing through our hearts these days it seems to be, “Bring me back to normal!!!” But if we really thought about this a moment… isn’t it fear that makes us crave the familiar… even if the familiar was killing us?! I think that’s just part of the human condition actually, I mean way back in Exodus we see the same thing occurring!
Exodus 14 depicts a time the Israelites were freed by God Almighty to go to the Promised Land flowing with milk and honey yet between verses 10-12 they are struck with fear, fear of the enemy, the unfamiliar and they crave to go back! Back to Egypt where there were plenty of what…GRAVES (vs. 11) and they could be… SLAVES (vs. 12) because you know that would be just WONDERFUL and make everything better right?!?!???
Normal is only normal because it’s what’s known, for 400 years the Isralelites thought slavery was “normal”! Faith looks FORWARD (Hebrews 11)! Maybe God through this time of unfamiliar territory is moving us forward to a new and better normal?!! Ex. 14:13-14 But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the LORD rescue you today…(14) The LORD himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.
Who can know the mind of the Lord? Who can counsel The Wonderful Counselor (Is.9:6)?! Our God is a GOOD God. Praying He be my ability to stop clinging and craving in fear the old familiar “normal” but rather in faith move fearlessly forward trusting that all I hold dear is in a Hand that IS NOT SHAKING and is able to bring into a BETTER BALANCE what may now seem to be bouncing.
Jesus died on a Friday, it seemed the ball hit the ground, but then there was the bounce all Saturday and the crowd held their breath… then came Sunday! It was all net! He just went and rose again victorious once and for all time!! We are no longer slaves to the grave! We can ride this wild ride forward in victory dear one, we can in Jesus!!
You can’t make a basket… you can’t score the point… if you don’t first toss the basketball in the air! Dear Jesus give us the strength to trust You enough to follow You forward in faith to a new and better “normal”. You are good all the time, all the time You are good
