Reigning Rainbows Devotional  (Matt. 13:16) – 23 of 52

Song picks of the week: “Miracles” by Colton Dixon

A “rainbow” painted just for you: Serendipity – As they led Jesus away, a man named Simon, who was from Cyrene, happened to be coming in from the countryside. The soldiers seized him and put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus. Luke 23:26 (NLT) (emphasis mine)

At first glance the above verse seems like such an adventure and I’m sure it was! I can pray, make me like Simon Lord, make me just “happen to be” in the right place at just the right time to be amazing for You! But then on second thought can you just imagine this scene from Simons point of view?! He probably thought he was anywhere but in the right place at the right time!!

I imagine the soldiers reaching for him and if there just hadn’t been so many people in his way he very well may have broken the world record for long distance sprinting as he fled as far away as possible from this morbid scene!! But who could blame him right?!

Romans 5:6 tells us that, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. At just the RIGHT time He what?! Died for who?! The ungodly!?! But then verse 8 tells us why. This is how God demonstrates his own love for us… You see, at the right time (that may have felt like the wrong time) He stepped up for us. Instead of sprinting in the opposite direction He stayed. He went first. He took our cross. Because He IS love.

Today if we “happen to be” in what feels like the wrong place at the wrong time let’s take a second glance to make sure that it might not just be the RIGHT place at just the RIGHT time to say, here am I Lord. I’ll take up my cross. I’ll follow behind You. Because I love You back.
