A “rainbow” painted just for you: Washed, Sanctified, and Justified – Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Cor. 6:11 (NLT)

1 Cor. 6:9-10 gives us all a pretty strong warning about what will not inherit the Kingdom. By verse 11, lest any of us think we are above such a warning, begins with, “Some of you were once like that.” and honestly who on earth has not exhibited greedy selfishness or the worship of an idol?! Maybe it wasn’t in the shape of a large golden calf in your front yard but could it have been a family member or a career that took over more of your heart and mind than God Himself had access to? Maybe we are our own idol?! When have we trusted more in what WE could see and know and feel in control of rather than in God Almighty? Some of us who are honest can maybe relate more than we would like to admit. BUT (you have to love “BUT’s” in Scripture) the second sentence in 1 Cor. 6:11 gives us hope! BUT we have been CLEANSED, MADE HOLY, MADE RIGHT WITH GOD! How?! By calling on Jesus and by the Spirit of our God!

Let’s break it down… Glance at Acts 22:16. We can be CLEANSED which is a metaphor for the righteousness that comes through forgiveness. 1 Cor. 1:2 tells us we are MADE HOLY or sanctified in Jesus. He has set us apart through our faith in His saving work on the cross. MADE RIGHT WITH GOD or justified by our identification with Jesus and by the transforming work of His Holy Spirit within us. When we repent and turn to Him in faith we are forgiven and viewed now as righteous. Glance at Romans 1:17 and 3:21-26 for further clarification.

Our God is so good! Titus 3:3-7 (NLT) states, (Keep your eye peeled for the “but” in verse 4!) Once we, too, were foolish and disobedient. We were misled and became slaves to many lusts and pleasures. Our lives were full of evil and envy, and we hated each other. (4) But – “When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and a new life through the Holy Spirit. He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior. Because of his grace he declared us righteous and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life.”

Dear one, do you have this confidence? John 3:16 tells us the gift of eternal life is for ALL who would believe in Him. If you have never prayed to ask Jesus into your life, to wash, sanctify and justify you, today dear one, today He waits and longs for your heart to receive Him as Savior, Lord, God Almighty! You are wanted, you are loved. In Him the old is gone the new has come (2 Cor. 5:17)!
