In this day in age we are fortunate for the many medical advancements that have lengthened the average life span. However more than knowing a good doctor that can add years to your life… is knowing the Great Physician that can add life to your years.
Psalm 91:14-16 gives us 6 “I will…” promises. I will deliver… I will protect… I will answer… I will be with… I will rescue… and verse 16, (ESV) With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.” WOW right! Now look at what is on the other side of these promises with me. Hold fast to Him… loves Him… knows His name… calls to Him… Another WOW! The ultimate picture of a trust filled relationship.
In Exodus 33:12 Moses asks God, whom will You send with me to bring Your people into the Promised Land?! The Lord replies in verse 14, I will personally go with you, Moses, and I will give you rest – Now if you know much about the Israelites journey in the wilderness, restful would probably not be the first word that comes to mind. However I believe it’s like Proverbs 17:1 NIV Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife. The journey of life will ALWAYS be better in His presence than outside it.
John 16:33 NIV “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” 2 Timothy 4:18 NIV The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
The journey may at times feel anything but safe just as Moses’ journey may at times have felt anything but restful but a faith filled, trusting relationship goes deeper than just the emotions we experience. I’m sure Jesus didn’t feel like the cross that day but because He persevered in the unsafe and restless journey here on earth we too who trust in Jesus will be satisfied with a VERY long life in His presence eternally. No matter how long or short our earthly journey lasts we can be sure our years in His presence can be filled with abundant life regardless of what we face.
2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 NIV May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.
