Because the LORD kept vigil that night to bring them out of Egypt… Exodus 12:42 (NIV)
“The LORD kept vigil”. Vigil means to keep awake, especially to keep watch. During that night that the angel of death passed over Egypt, Exodus tells us the Lord kept vigil to bring His people, the Israelites, out of Egypt, out of slavery! Exodus 12:41-42 (NIV) states, At the end of the 430 years, to the very day, all the LORD’s divisions left Egypt. Because the LORD kept vigil that night to bring them out of Egypt…
“…to the very day…”, seems God was right on time and doing things in a fitting and orderly way according to His perfect plan.
“…all the LORD’s divisions…” seems not one was missing.
“…the LORD kept vigil…” seems if God’s awake and keeping watch, you and I can rest in peace (like a baby… His trusting child). Even though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death; even when the angel of death soars over us.
Our God is the same yesterday, today and forever. The same God who kept vigil so the Israelites could experience freedom is the same God that keeps vigil over you and I so that we too can experience freedom from worry, anxiety, stress and any number of ailments that would keep us in a pattern of sleepless nights.
Dear one, let the Lord keep vigil over you, He’s really good at it, been doin’ it for centuries, He is the One you can trust. …be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: … Psalm 27:14 (KJB)
In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety. Psalm 4:8 (NIV)
