Amaziah probably found himself feeling a little more than amazed at the word brought to him by a man of God one day. Amaziah had made EXTENSIVE preparations for a battle. He gathered people from Judah and went to great lengths to organize them according to their families, assigning them to commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds for all Judah and Benjamin! He mustered up those 20 years old or older and found 300,000 able fighting men. He ALSO hired 100,000 fighting men from Israel at no small price!! This was no rinky dink operation to say the least!
Now, I am no army commander of hundreds of thousands BUT as a mom of six kiddos I understand the importance of strategic planning and the hours of effort that can go into hosting a well organized event! So my heart kinda goes out to ol’ Amaziah as he receives a rather large wrench thrown into his elaborate agenda.
The man of God tells Amaziah, Even if you go and fight courageously in battle, God will overthrow you before the enemy, for God has the power to help or to overthrow.” Amaziah asked the man of God, “But what about the hundred talents I paid for these Israelite troops?” The man of God replied, “The LORD can give you much more than that.” 2 Chronicles 25:8-9 (NIV)
Although Amaziah may have been amazed at such a word, to his credit he answers with obedience. Although he met with some pretty disgruntled soldiers upon their dismissal he marshaled his strength and led GOD’s army, by GOD’s way, in GOD’s plan, and met with victory.
Is there anything in your life today that seems to have gone left when you were planning a right? Do you want to ask the same question as Amaziah did, “But what about…?!”
Then be encouraged, because God can give you “MUCH MORE THAN THAT”! Jesus says, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26 (NIV) Nothing dies, stays small or remains inadequate when placed in His capable hands. If your plans have fallen flat praise our God who fights for you (even still) to flourish in a far bigger frame than you ever could have even measured for dear one!
