Reigning Rainbows Devotional  (Matt. 13:16) – 22 of 52

Song pick of the week: https://youtu.be/HYompTPEoXg “Set The World On Fire” by Britt Nicole

A “rainbow” painted just for you: Heart Ablaze – And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself. Luke 24:27 (ESV)

Good golly did you read that WILD verse?! I am most certainly going to locate that sermon tape in heavens archives when I get there!

Luke 24 records the journey of two men not only physically but spiritually too I believe. Luke 24:22-24 records that these men had previously received an amazing report about the resurrection of Jesus. But it was not until they walked with Jesus that what they knew in their heads was brought to life in their hearts. Luke 24:32 (NLT) They said to each other, “Didn’t our hearts burn within us as he talked with us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?”

Later Luke 24:34 records these men exclaiming the Truth of Jesus that they had already previously been told but only now had it taken root! The difference was their encounter with God Himself. Having walked with Jesus, the Truth they had known came ALIVE, setting their hearts ablaze with a fire that could not be contained! His Spirit can bring alive in our heart a Truth we only but knew in our head.

Job 32:8 tells us, But it is the spirit in a man, the breath of the Almighty, that makes him understand. Today let’s begin in prayer and in His Word that as we read Him, He read us so that the Holy Spirit might ignite in us a craving for Truth. May the breath of the Almighty breathe on that spark and send it into a roaring flame that just cannot be contained! Oh that the warmth of His love from His Light within us would set our hearts ablaze drawing all men to experience Him!

Verse 8

A “rainbow” painted just for you: Verse 8 – Early on Sunday morning, while it was still dark, ….John 20:1 (NLT)

Anyone else ever tried to get up before the sun and the rest of your crew in order to get a head start on the day?!… Only to find that the dog decided to sleep in a NEW spot?!! So now (if you can picture this in slow motion it’s even better, or maybe worse) you’ve managed to tripped most gracefully over the dog but unfortunately have not landed your backwards double flip with a twist, so you’ve lost your grip… and I do mean on your coffee, so it’s spilled, cup shattered, short circuiting your computer (and maybe worst of all) your outfit is now ruined!! BUT not to worry the dog has fulfilled his duties as faithful watchdog and everyone in the house (AND neighborhood) is now up and wondering what you are up to… AGAIN!! (sigh) The choice is now simple… sell the dog. NO JUST KIDDING!! But the choice IS simple… keep moving forward. I mean after that, it can only go up right!?!!

This is what we see Mary do in John 20. In verse 1 she gets up early, while it is still dark and maybe I think probably still dark in her heart after all that she has gone through. She just saw her God crucified, hopes dashed, but not only that, now she comes to find that the tomb has been messed with as well!!! Yet with all the reason in the world to crumble in despair right then and there she doesn’t!! She moves forward!! And because she did, there came a verse 8. In John 20 verse 8 someone else comes to believe because she kept moving forward in spite of every reason to remain frozen in despair.

Who might be your “verse 8” today? When my life was fainting away, I remembered the LORD, and my prayer came to you, into your holy temple. Jonah 2:7 (ESV) You are still God’s bright idea to the world even when all seems dark. Keep moving forward dear one. Someone else needs the Light you have. You still have a “verse 8” out there just waiting to happen!

Percolated To Perfection

A “rainbow” painted just for you: Percolated To Perfection – Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. James 5:7 (NKJV)

Anyone else wonder why they invented tea bags without the string?! I love the string!! The string offers an opportunity for inspiration! Who doesn’t appreciate the witty sayings, encouraging quotes and scriptures some companies add to the little tag attached to that string?! But alas (sigh) some of my favorite teas come stringless.

At times the Lord’s commands may seem like there are just too many strings attached, making life too difficult. We would prefer a stringless tea bag kind of life. That my dear friend is just the kind of thought the enemy of all life (John 10:10) would want us to percolate in and fester over in frustration. However it is often the thing that seems at first like a strangling string that in actuality is our life line!

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. 1 Cor. 10:13 That way out is up the string! The line of Truth in His Word!! If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:38

In life we will have trials that feel like hot water (maybe scalding blistering hot water even (John 16:33)) and James 5:7 tells us that if we resist the enemy he flees but what is the key to strength in the moment of resistance?! The sentence before holds the answer! Submit to God! Take the string, the line of Truth He offers you, maybe it’s the one that says, We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down but not destroyed. 2 Cor. 4-8-9

A tea bag must be placed in hot water in order for the flavor to permeate. When we enter hot trials may what comes out of us be the flavor of the overcoming strength of Jesus. May that flavor within come from the line of Truth invading our soul so that no matter the glass we are thrown into we can percolate to perfection.

Faith Fertilizer

2020-03-10 09.23.24

Reigning Rainbows Devotional  (Matt. 13:16) – 18 of 52

Song picks of the week: https://youtu.be/jjGMlYywK9M “Christ Be Magnified” by Cody Carnes

A “rainbow” painted just for you: Faith Fertilizer – And it is not because I am wiser than anyone else that I know the secret of your dream, but because God wants you to understand what was in your heart. Daniel 2:30 (NLT)

Anyone else with sod issues?! Too often I find myself trying to lay down sod where God wants to cast His seed. So what do we do when our nicely finished plan doesn’t match the growth process of His better purpose?

Well let’s look at Daniel, a man surrendered to the will of God. Everything he did from thought, word and deed was, “because God…” Daniel honored God through his complete trust and humble surrender, a.k.a obedience. He served faithfully even when he was taken captive, even when his life was threatened, even if he lost it all and nothing made sense just… because God would stand with him, because God loved him, because God had great plans for and beyond him. Because God is faithful we can choose obedience even when we can’t find our faith. The fertilizer for faith is choosing to step in obedience, “even when, even if, just, “because God…”.

Daniel’s life always pointed to the Source of all of life. In Daniel 2:30 he states it’s not because of me but because God…  such a wise man cuz I tell ya what, unguarded strength becomes a double weakness faster than greased up lightnin’! What God purposes He provides for and that day God wanted to save all the wise men of Babylon and for the king to understand what was in his heart. Daniel was willing to be the guy through whom God worked out His purpose. Are we willing to be His provision? To offer our lives on altar as an offering of obedience, even when, even if… just, “because God…”?! NOT because we fully understand or agree or feel like it; but like Daniel, just because God is God and we are not, choose to step in obedience anyway …because God WILL fertilize obedient faith. “Even when…” and “even if…”, God will always be Himself and He will always be with you. Psalm 46:1-3,5 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. (5) God is within her, she will not fall;

Trust fertilizes obedience and obedience fertilizes trust and trust grows faith because He is always faithful. It’s not about looking finished, or trying harder in our own strength, it’s about continuing to grow up in the process, so let’s put a hold on the sod and in humility receive the process of the good Seed together dear friend.

A “rainbow” painted just for you: Have you noticed?! – Have you noticed what people are saying? – ‘The LORD chose Judah and Israel and then abandoned them!’ They are sneering and saying that Israel is not worthy to be counted as a nation. (25) But this is what the LORD says: I would no more reject my people than I would change my laws that govern night and day, earth and sky. Jeremiah 33:24-25 (NLT)

Have you ever noticed the clouds and wondered if they ever look down on US and make comments about OUR shapes?! —- Maybe not, but what ARE you taking notice of? God asks Jeremiah if he notices the lies being said, but He doesn’t stop there because all too often we are well aware of the negativity going around right?! I think God realizes in this world we will notice a lot of things but He wants us to FOCUS on one thing and that is His Truth. God tells Jeremiah in a sense (and I’m paraphrasing Jer. 33:23-26 NLT), “You may notice the lies they are saying about Me and about you BUT I want you to FOCUS on the Truth that I would no more reject you than change my laws that govern night and day, earth and sky… I would never abandon my servant or change The plan… I am a God that restores and has mercy, Who’s covenant stands true!” Amen right!

Psalm 77 is a remarkable read. This poor guy can’t sleep (verse 2) anyone else relate to a sleepless night filled with questions?! The dark of night always seems to welcome the craziest and scariest things to heart right?! Looking at Psalm 77:7-10 it seems to happen to this guy too! He wonders, has God rejected him forever, has His unfailing love failed?! In the daylight these worries seem ridiculous, I mean unfailing love just cannot fail it is UN-failing!! Psalm 36:9 For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.  The enemy scatters like roaches do when the light is turned on – the enemy can’t handle the Truth about you, so walk in the Truth! 1 John 1:7 tells us, but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. (NASB)

A flip is made by verse 11 in Psalm 77. In your wrestle with questions don’t give up before you reach your “verse 11” when you begin to remember and recount ALL the faithfulness of God… that you still have a breath because He still has a GREAT purpose for it, that He makes ways where there is no way, that He is the Good shepherd that leads His flock never leaving their side! In Him you are never without a LIVING HOPE.

You may notice a lot of negative things today but choose to focus on things that are True, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy (Phil. 4:8). What we think creates emotions and from what we feel, we act on; today let’s capture our thoughts, choose to look up, and focus on Truth dear one.

A “rainbow” painted just for you: OH no! Oh no!! Oh no, no, no, NO!!! …”Oh no, my lord!” What shall we do?” the servant asked. “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered…. 2 Kings 6:15-16 (NIV)

Anyone else lately looked at their situation, their finances, their health, their job…the world, and thought, “OH NO!! Oh no, no, no, NO!!!! Oh NOOOOOOOO!” ?!?!  Well, if so, you are not alone. It would seem there was also such an individual that found himself in a state of frantic fear in 2 Kings 6:15. A strong enemy force had surrounded the city he was in… overnight! The servant wakes up, freaks out, but Elisha, his master responds with, “Don’t be afraid.”

I imagine at that moment the servant respondes, “Seriously dude, not what I need to hear right now! Good theology but, reality check, look out the window!! We are s-U-R-R-O-U-N-D-E-D by the enemy!! And you say, ‘Don’t be afraid!’?!! What do you know that I don’t?!” – Elisah knew that God’s army was much bigger and more powerful than the enemies and he prays for his servants’ eyes to be opened in order to see this Truth. (verses 16-17)

When we see the command in Scripture, “Don’t be afraid.” and it just seems so out of our reach considering our current circumstances, before we just blow it off as an impossibility let’s take a deeper look. The first word in that phrase is, “Don’t..” so what should we NOT do in order to calm fear? DON’T: focus on the enemy!! DON’T: focus on the impossibility or the past failure. The enemy in Nehemiah’s day wanted him to meet in a village on the plain of Ono (Neh. 6:1-3). DON’T: meet with your enemy… especially in a place called Ono (Oh no)!! Nehemiah was able to focus on Truth and avoided that potentially disastrous meeting all together! This leads to the second word in our phase “Don’t be afraid.” “BE”. So we know what we DON’T do… but what we SHOULD do is “BE”! Be what, you ask?! BE: in TRUTH! BE: in the Word. BE: in prayer, BE: in fellowship with other strong faithful Christians that can pray for you like Elisha prayed for his servant.

If we follow these steps of DON’T… and BE… found in the command “Don’t be afraid” by the time we get to the word “AFRAID” we will be able to do like the women at the tomb after Jesus was resurrected! See Matthew 28:7-8. The command from the angels is to go and tell the disciples the good news that Jesus had risen from the grave!! Verse 8 depicts these women as afraid yet filled with joy. Has that ever puzzled anyone else?! How can you be afraid YET FILLED WITH JOY?!?! I believe when you DON”T focus on or meet with the enemy but rather you choose to BE with Jesus constantly immersed in His Truth, than like these women at the empty tomb …”afraid yet filled with joy, they didn’t stand frozen in fear but rather carried out the mission and ran to tell his disciples.” the good news!

He BEcame their joy even in the fear, they made themselves available and He BEcame their Ability in their availAbility. “DON’T…. BE…. AFRAID.”  Truth: The tomb still stands empty today my friend. In Jesus you are on victory’s side. Don’t be afraid, “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 2 Kings 6:16

PRAY/READ: 2 Kings 6:8-23, Neh. 6, Matt. 28:1-10 pray to focus on Truth – (Psalm 36:9) Got time?! Read Matt. 8:23-27 Why do you think Jesus asks that question in verse 26? I think, because no matter what happened… whether the storm was stopped or they were taken up to heaven in it…nothing would be able to change the grip of the Hand that held them securely (2 Tim. 4:18). Why are we afraid?! We’re in His mighty grip!

Case Closed!

Reigning Rainbows Devotional  (Matt. 13:16) – 15 of 52

https://youtu.be/zotmQph6xEc “Evidence” by Citizen Way

https://youtu.be/EJ37Y4WmoYw “Firm Foundation” by Keith Lancaster & The Acappella Company

A “rainbow” painted just for you: Case Closed! True, some of them were unfaithful; but just because they were unfaithful, does that mean God will be unfaithful? Of course not! Even if everyone else is a liar, God is true. As the Scriptures say about him, “You will be proved right in what you say, and you will win your case in court.” Romans 3:3-4 (NLT)

A wise friend once said, “Jesus will never turn away a case; nor does He ever lose one.” So what is your “case”? Do you believe God wants to take your “case”? Do you believe if you hand over your life, your situation, your “case” that He won’t lose as your Defender?

The above verses in Romans finds Paul quoting David in Psalm 51:4 after he had committed great sin. David admitted that God was proved right in His punishment, and that He would win his case in court, God’s punishment was entirely just for his sin. Sin doesn’t go without consequence. It can be easy to fall into taking God’s amazing grace for granted but God cannot overlook sin – He forgives us when we repent and removes our sin from us as far as the east is from the west even (Psalm 103:12)! But we may still suffer the consequences however God’s mercy is great! Praise Him!

2 Samuel 24:14 again finds David facing severe repercussions for his sinful behavior but he cries out, “I’m in a desperate situation!” … “But let us fall into the hands of the LORD, for his mercy is great. Do not let me fall into human hands.”  John 2:24-25 tells us Jesus also would not entrust Himself to human nature, no one needed to tell Him what mankind was really like. 1 Peter 2:23 states, Jesus, did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threaten revenge when he suffered, He left his case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly. Isaiah 53 tells us He was unjustly condemned and buried like a criminal…. Yet on the third day His case was won!!! He rose victoriously from the grave! He beacons all to come to Him; to repent of sin no matter their “case”, no matter how desperate their situation and receive amazing grace and incomprehensible mercy. The cross didn’t happen to Jesus, He came to take it on; to become The Way, The Door to all time and eternity for ANYONE who would bring their “case” their life, to Him and believe in Him as God and Savior!

He was beaten so we could be whole and whipped so we could be healed (Is. 53). The One who could have walked entitled chose to surrender to the Father’s expectation (Matt. 26:39). Might we choose today to surrender what we feel entitled to, to let go of our expectation of the way we thought/think our “case” should go and while we are still alive and breathing choose to praise Him, to allow God Almighty, our victorious Defender to reign Sovereign and lead us in triumphal procession (2 Cor. 2:14) as He brings our “case” to a victorious close in heaven one day for His glory!

“To infinity and beyond!!”

Reigning Rainbows Devotional  (Matt. 13:16) – 14 of 52

Song pick of the week: https://youtu.be/C0b2GFdxuVk “God My Rock” By Brenton Brown

A “rainbow” painted just for you: “To Infinity and Beyond!” – After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. Acts 1:3 (NIV)

Oh my dear friend did those first three words fill your heart with as much hope as it did mine?!! “After his suffering…” In Jesus we all have an AFTER SUFFERING because He conquered death and the grave once and for all (1 Cor. 15:55-57)!! What was it Jesus spoke about after His suffering in the above verse? THE KINGDOM!!! This place is described in Rev. 21:1-7 as a new place, without death or sorrow or crying or pain! Oh dear one this is trustworthy and true!! All who are victorious will inherit all those blessings! So what does it take to be victorious you ask?

Well… Paul in Acts 27 was stuck in a ship for 14 days… anyone else been stuck somewhere for 14 days? They were in a terrible storm and God said, don’t worry you will all arrive safely to shore BUT you will be shipwrecked in the process. John 16:33 promises in this world we will have “shipwrecks” this side of heaven but for those that do not give up faith in the One who’s grip on their life will not ever, ever, EVER be shaken (John 10:28), WILL arrive safely in His Kingdom (2 Tim. 4:18). When you hit rock bottom that is a rock solid promise you can plant your feet on to stand up again.

John 11:7-8 depicts a time Jesus tells His disciples He’s headed back to Judea (where people had just recently tried to stone Him?!?!) WHAT?! I don’t know about you but it seems to me faith doesn’t often grow in what we know, but in situations that we don’t. Might we start seeing fear like weights… just an opportunity to exercise and strengthen faith like a muscle?! Working out is not always fun but to bring about something new often requires the uncomfortable disrupt of something normal, does it not? He gives His Spirit without limit and thus we have all we need to be victorious in Jesus. We will have just enough energy and strength to look outstanding and absolutely amazing… maybe, but that’s not the goal and more often my experience would be that I’m given just enough energy and strength to continue to rely on Him and let the “outstanding and amazing” be defined by Him alone. He knows the plans He has for you (Jer. 29:11) and those dear one can not be canceled. So keep the faith! We got “to infinity and beyond” as our destination!

This week spend a moment in Joshua 3. It seems God knows when we have “not been this way before” (vs. 4) but not to worry He always has (Heb. 13:8). Seems according to verse 4 He knows a bit about “distancing” too! Notice what verse 5 states. How are we using times of “distance” to consecrate ourselves for even greater things? We will come through our “shipwrecks”… let’s arrive better on the other side.

A “rainbow” painted just for you: His Good Hand – …I took courage, for the hand of the LORD my God was on me… Ezra 7:28 (ESV)

I wish I could tell you that if you see me talking to myself, that I am just getting expert advice. However I’ve lived long enough with myself to know better. So why do I catch myself reverting to thinking/acting like I know best?! 1 Peter 2:23 (NASB) states, and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously; Now if Jesus had to KEEP entrusting Himself to the Father how much more will I have to KEEP entrusting, keep casting my cares, keep re-fixing my eyes on Him and aligning my thoughts to His Truths?!! God wants us to be obedient to His will so therefore He will not hide His will from us. However I believe He wants us to seek it out earnestly in prayer and in His Word because this will develop more than just head knowledge but rather a love relationship in which obedience to His will flows from a heart that worships in sincerity and truth. A surrendered will to the Father is the only kind of will that can become the conformed will.

Ezra was given a task well beyond himself however God’s good hand was on him every step of the way and Ezra chose to take courage in Him who was far greater than himself. In Ezra 8:21-23 Ezra makes spiritual preparations for a journey before he makes the physical preparations. This shows his acknowledgement that God is the One in control, that he is dependent on God Almighty for protection and that he himself is not strong enough to make this trip without God going first. Ezra knew God’s good promises but he did not take them for granted, knowing that often God’s blessings are opened up via prayer so he humbled himself and prayed. By verse 31-32 we see that God in His goodness, grace and mercy answered their prayers favorably.

This week how might His people who are called by His name humble themselves and pray more diligently in all things just to know and love Him more dearly. This can only lead to a people that convey His heart more clearly to a world so desperately seeking the good hand of The great I Am, your Provider.

Build A Rainbow Bridge: (Deut. 6:6-9)

MEMORIZE: Ezra 7:28 with someone

PRAY/READ: Psalm 136 and Ezra 7-8. Count how often it is stated that God’s good hand was present. Take note of 7:10 that states Ezra’s heart was set on studying and DOING the word! We can pray for that same heart.

DISCUSS: Ezra 8:28 reminds me that in Christ you are set apart as holy for His service. What and how are you stewarting that which He has placed in your care?

ACT: Like Ezra in 7:28, “take courage” knowing God is with you and is your Provider. Make known your Provider to someone in your circle of influence this week.

Reigning Rainbows Devotional  (Matt. 13:16) – 12 of 52

A “rainbow” painted just for you: THE News – But Peter said, “I do not possess silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene- walk!” Acts 3:6 (NASB)

The world is watching the news quite closely lately which is delivered by whom we call an anchor. Mark 1:14-15 records Jesus proclaiming the GOOD NEWS of the Gospel! Hebrews 6:19 tells us we have a hope as an anchor for our soul that is firm and secure! The enemy is proficient in reminding us (like the news on T.V. these days) all that we lack. We lack a cure, control, the ability to gather in public and even TP for cryin’ out loud!! In these current times when we have been asked to quarantine wisely for health reasons (Prov. 22:3) do not lose heart (Matt. 10:26-31)!

Though physically we are somewhat quarantined, spiritually we can still rock this world! Nothing can contain or quarantine our prayers, praises or our mighty Sovereign God who is ALWAYS on the move! I mean even two thirds of His name is movement right! (GO!-d) He has not stopped spinning the earth on its axis since He first set it in motion, He’s still pumping your heart since in utero, still breathing life into your lungs so they rise and fall even as you read this! Look at the changing seasons! He is an ever moving God! Amen!

In Luke 1:39-45 we see the baby inside Elizabeth MOVE when Mary brings Jesus within her, to her situation. Are we looking at new opportunities to bring Jesus to our on-line communities, for Him to MOVE and infiltrate them in ways we never could have imagined? In Luke 24:49 we see the disciples asked to stay within the city until they received the Holy Spirit. So in Acts 2:1-4 they are all found not leaving but rather just waiting together in one room when the Holy Spirit MOVES in like the roaring of a mighty windstorm!! Jesus is able to MOVE in, even without them coming out!!

In Acts 3:6 we find Peter telling the lame man he does not have what he’s looking for but I tell you what… that man received his biggest blessing on the flip side of his biggest disappointment! Why?! Because someone brought the name of Jesus! The Name above all names! The Name above all disease, and that has conquered sin, death and the grave!! Don’t let the enemy discourage you with what you lack when what you have in Jesus is exceedingly and abundantly more than you could ever ask or imagine (Eph 3:20-21)! Read Isaiah 65:17-25 with special attention to verse 24 and cling to the Anchor of your soul in a Hope that will not disappoint (Rom. 5:5)! Psalm 46:10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”  Our Sovereign God is in control, on His throne and always moving! We can be still physically yet still rock this world spiritually with our prayers, praises and bringing Jesus within us to situations and in ways we may never have had an opportunity to think of before! Receive The Good News of Jesus and live (John 10:10)!
